A Roman legionary advances on the highest regions of the Alps. A retrospection of an ageing veteran on his peak performance of youth – revelling and nostalgic in his poetic reflection on this physical exertion. The menacing summit soon to engulf him, he emerges from the mist hopefully beholding the aspired lands.
